Installing or Setup a Google Chromecast

The Google Chromecast is a popular streaming gadget. Google's entry in the streaming hardware fight is a plug-and-play HDMI gadget that lets you to "cast" audio and video from your favourite mobile device to your TV. It's been available for a few years now. The Chromecast with Google TV, the most recent generation, adds an onscreen menu and a real remote control, however the setup and function are quite similar to the regular casting Chromecast.

Don't panic if you've just purchased a new Chromecast and aren't sure how to set it up. Here's a simple step-by-step instruction to help you out.

Configuring a conventional Chromecast (3rd Gen)

Step 1: Unbox your Chromecast and double-check that it has the Chromecast, a Micro USB to USB power cord, and a wall adapter.

Step 2: Plug the wide end of your Chromecast into an open HDMI port on your TV, then connect the Micro USB cord to your Chromecast.

Step 3: To power the Chromecast, you'll need to connect in the USB cord. Plug it into the USB port on your TV if it has one. A little LED on your Chromecast should light up if the port is working. Remove the USB from the port, plug it into the USB wall charger, then plug the charger into the nearest wall outlet if it doesn't light up. If you need to increase the range of your Chromecast, you may buy an HDMI extension cable.

Step 4: Turn on your television and choose the appropriate HDMI source. When you see the Set me up screen, you know you're on the correct input.

Step 5: You may set up your Chromecast using your laptop by going to, or you can use the Google Home app to set it up with your tablet or smartphone.

Step 6: In the Google Home app, tap Devices in the upper right corner of the screen after you've downloaded the app and accepted the terms of service.

Step 7: Once you've given Google Home permission to access your location, it will locate the Chromecast that's closest to you. Tap Set Up and then Continue after you've chosen your Chromecast.

Step 8: Tap Continue once the app has established a connection with the Chromecast.

Step 9: On your phone and on your television, a code should display. If they're the same, choose I See the Code.

Step 10: Give your Chromecast a name (preferably something amusing and witty), then press Continue.Step 11: After you've given it a name, connect your Chromecast to your Wi-Fi by entering your password in the box presented.
